Gwen has been a writer and editor since Justin Trudeau was a babe in arms. Long ago, she published poems, short stories, and three history books: "Once Upon a Mine," "For Love of Stone," and "Gesner's Dream." Never heard of them? You’re not alone. After realizing that book royalties would never pay the rent, Gwen began a thirty-year career that saw her authoring or editing tedious scientific tomes, lively political speeches, boring government reports, and million-dollar grant proposals for engineering clients across Canada. Now semi-retired, she publishes creative nonfiction in literary magazines for fun. She's pondering a nonfiction book, "The Solace of Stone,"© to explore how rocks embody our collective yearning for the numinous. She's also working on a crime series under the banner of MoonStone Mysteries.
Gwen has a B.Sc. from University of Toronto (geology) and diplomas from The Banff Centre (creative writing; arts journalism). Other than that, her education has come from life. She played piano at ballet schools and sang folk songs in lounges. She jumped freight trains in the days when you could. She worked as a prospector, geologist, and geotourism guide. She later served as an arts journalist, science magazine editor, desktop publisher, and writing/editing workshop facilitator. Gwen is a professional member with The Writers’ Union of Canada, Crime Writers of Canada, and Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia.
Professional editor and writer, who can help you tell your fiction or nonfiction story with style, clarity, and – if desired – whimsy. Favourite focus: stories about Atlantic Canada's natural spaces and how its landscape shapes the integrity, psyche, and imagination of the people.
