The Canadian Freelance Guild is a dynamic community that seeks to redefine how freelancers collaborate, prosper, and grow.
Established in 2020 and drawing strength from the legacy of our founding members, including the Professional Writers Association of Canada (PWAC) and the independent Freelance Branch of the Canadian Media Guild (CMG Freelance), the CFG stands at the forefront of reshaping the freelance landscape. Both organizations have a long-standing reputation of defending freelance rights and providing professional development and advice for its respective membership.
We are proudly affiliated with CWA-SCA Canada, the country's largest all-media union. The CFG has a democratically elected executive who work together to provide leadership and contribute expertise to support members, as well as ensure freelancers enjoy space and consideration within the wider operations of CWA-SCA Canada.
CFG members include dedicated full-timers, skilled part-time freelancers, enterprising entrepreneurs, and members of other unions, associations, and programs. Our members include academic writers, animators, app content writers, authors, bloggers, business and technical writers, copyeditors, copywriters, digital media analysts, e-book writers, editors (text/audio/video), game developers, graphic designers, illustrators, journalists (text/audio/video), media trainers, novelists, photographers, podcasters, public relations professionals, public speakers, screenwriters, self-published authors, social media managers, software developers, sound designers, translators, videographers, web content providers, and website and blog designers.
The CFG is led by an executive elected to advance the interests of freelance members.
