After completing the two-year Professional Writing program at Algonquin College in Ottawa, I worked at two non-governmental organizations: the Vanier Institute of the Family, where I provided book reviews and short articles for Transition magazine, its in-house publication; and Population Institute Canada, where I was the Director Outreach for nine years, providing social media content, newsletters, press releases and newsroom posts (my greatest achievement was editing the letter that ultimately persuaded Sir David Attenborough to become our patron!) I've also been a social media manager for Bowda Communications, a boutique public relations agency in Ottawa, for whom I created social media content for the Canadian Heart Failure Society's Twitter account for one year, and provided content for the Mountain Plains Community Services Society of the North's Facebook account. I was the news aggregator and editor of The Short Report, Research Money's online publication dedicated to science, technology and innovation funding news in Canada, for three years, and most recently completed a contract as a technical writer and editor for General Dynamics Mission Systems Canada. In 2014 I was awarded the runner up prize in the Professional Writing program at Algonquin College for my personal blog "Repatriating the Ex-Pat," an exploration of returning home to Canada after living abroad for many years in Japan.
I have a baccalaureate degree in Political Science from Dalhousie University and a Diploma in Professional Writing from Algonquin College.
