Wondery is hiring for a Freelance Senior Story Editor/Lead Writer for a new weekly narrative show that tells contemporary and historical stories about royals from around the globe. This role will work closely and collaboratively with writers, producers, and hosts. We’re looking for an experienced storyteller who can easily inhabit other people’s points of view, pivot between comedy and tragedy, and find hidden and surprising parallels between today’s headlines and events from the past.

This is a full-time six month contract position with the possibility to extend. We’re looking for someone to start ASAP. Compensation is based on experience and skillset and will be no less than $2,100 per week.

Inherited is a storytelling podcast about climate change produced by, for, and about young adults, especially BIPOC folks and those from systemically marginalized communities. We are particularly interested in stories that focus on systemic challenges/experiences, rather than those focused on individual responsibility (i.e. "use paper straws"). 

Season 3 will be built around themes of earth, air, fire, water, and ~ ether ~ through our ongoing lens of climate and youth. This concept of the 5 elements of nature is cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary, and can be interpreted many different ways!

These themes are very broad so no need to try to box your story into one if it doesn't fit. If you're not sure or you don't think your story fits into any of the five, please submit anyway and we'll help you find it a home!

Eight fellows will be selected via an open application process. Applicants to the program must:

• Be of at least one of the following priority groups: Black, Indigenous, a person of colour
• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
• An emerging or sophomore storyteller (please see "Applicants" section below for more information)
• NOT be currently enrolled as a full-time student
• Be able to participate in lab taking place on Wednesday evenings, 5:00-6:00 pm (EST) between June and August 2023 (subject to change)
• Have a non-fiction limited podcast series idea in early development that can be honed in September and October 2023 in preparation for an in-person October 2023 showcase event in Toronto. (Please see "Projects" section below for more information)

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Pitch unique and compelling story ideas and construct innovative ways to tell them
• Locate people who are hard to find and cold-call strangers
• Book studios and coordinate schedules with guests and our host
• Regularly conduct in-depth research and develop host questions
• Write scripts for the ear
• Edit interview audio and score episodes using Pro Tools, or be ready to learn how
• Participate in long collaborative group edits with our host and other producers
• Write social and newsletter copy as needed
• Jump in to help colleagues with other production tasks as needed
