The Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild is seeking proposals for online professional development workshops from Canadian-based writers to offer starting in September 2025. We are looking for ideas and facilitators who are willing and comfortable using Zoom to offer workshops on the craft or business of writing. We are planning virtual workshops.

The SWG’s Professional Development workshop series focuses on the craft and business of writing. Its goal is to offer skill development for beginning, emerging, or established writers by established writers from a diversity of genres and backgrounds.

Our interactive online workshops will range in length from 90 minutes to 2 hours.

Numbers of participants may range from 8-16 people.

In some cases, we may offer 75-minute webinar presentations with unlimited participants.

Workshops are interactive, meaning the facilitator and participants will be in a Zoom meeting room and will see and hear each other. Interactive sessions may include group discussion, writing prompts, activities, polls, breakout rooms, PowerPoint (or similar technology) presentations, or more.

Webinar presentations are less interactive – a facilitator and host will be on screen, but you will not see participants' cameras/mics. This is a great format for a presentation on a topic followed by a moderated Q&A.

We invite proposals for online presentations and/or workshops to complement the sessions the SWG already has planned. We are open to proposals that relate to all other topics on the craft and business of writing in all genres that aren’t mentioned below, but we are particularly interested in proposals that address:

Craft of writing

• fiction in all lengths and genres (including literary, YA, children’s, romance, thriller, horror, fantasy, crime, etc.)
• poetry and/or spoken word
• script writing (plays and/or screenplays),
• memoir
• comics/graphic novels, or other forms
   

Business of writing

• accounting and income tax,
• self-employment and incorporation,
• marketing and promotion

Renumeration for 75- and 90-minute sessions is $300 and $350 for a 2-hour session.

Preference will be given to proposals that fit the goals of the professional development workshops and are offered by writers residing in Saskatchewan who are representative of a diversity of ideas and identities. Out-of-province applicants must explain their connections to the Saskatchewan writing community in their application. The SWG reserves the right to reject any proposal.

CH is seeking a skilled freelance web developer to refine the site’s data visualization process and provide ongoing website support and maintenance. This is a remote role with a flexible schedule and is ideal for someone with a passion for outdoor gear and expertise in Wordpress web development.

Scope

The site has an immediate need to develop engaging charts, tables, and graphs, as well as a streamlined process for editing and updating those visualizations. There is also an opportunity for ongoing site maintenance and support.

• Develop a more efficient system for visualizing and displaying data (i.e. charts, tables, and graphs)
• Optimize WordPress functionality, including installing and managing plugins
• Manage custom WordPress themes and refine site design for a smooth UX
• Consult on SEO best practices
• Provide ongoing site maintenance, including security updates, performance optimization, and storage management
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues as they arise

Qualifications

• Expertise in WordPress development (themes, plugins, customization)
• Experience with data visualization tools and plugins (e.g., Ninja Tables, DataTables, WP Table Builder, or similar)
• Graphic design experience and the ability to customize tools to match the look and feel of a custom theme
• Knowledge of website performance optimization and security best practices
• Ability to work independently and efficiently on a remote, flexible schedule
• A passion for the outdoors and an understanding of gear reviews

It is not the grants intention to fully support an artist/writer through the entire process of self-publishing, but rather to encourage creators to experience the learning process involved in working towards such a goal.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Work with the show supervisors to texture and shade 3D models using Photoshop, Substance Painter and/or Zbrush.

• Share ideas, collaborate and work closely with other members of the production including modeling, lighting, compositing and design.

We are always looking to collaborate with freelancers on visual stories they are excited to tell. Each quarter, we commission a couple of essays (compensation details below), but we accept story pitches year-round (and review monthly).

We pay $7,200 for end-to-end work on an essay. If we collaborate by providing some assistance in a non-editor capacity (e.g., we do the design), we will lower the compensation accordingly.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Build, deploy, and optimize all email marketing campaigns and automated programs focusing on customer retention; including design templates, calls-to-action, and content used in email sends

• Work closely with Ecommerce team to ensure email and sms channels showcase our weekly promotions
• Conduct customer segmentation and develop campaigns and programs for targeting specific customer groups (per segmentation efforts)
• Assist in managing the tools and relationships with vendors and agency partners which support consistent and appropriate engagement with customers at various stages of the lifecycle and work closely to ensure messaging maps to the overall brand and retention strategy
• Work with cross-functional teams to ensure content is being created and delivered to customers according to priorities, brand and deadlines
• Accountable for retention analysis including reporting, performance against plan and objectives, advanced segmentation, lifecycle, channel key performance metrics, funnel analysis, and driving insight and action from analysis
