We're looking for an experienced, passionate, organized, quality-driven, and motivated Managing Editor to lead our Capital Daily publication in Victoria, BC.

This is a full-time opportunity where the Managing Editor will lead a team to produce innovative, community-driven, and thought-provoking journalism that will grow and engage an audience. The editor will be able to produce content that provides meaningful value to residents of the local community that ranges from daily news updates to community profiles, and longform investigative features.

The Managing Editor will lead a team that includes newsletter editors, reporters, and an investigative reporter in creating engaging, hyper-local content for the daily newsletter, a weekly members-only newsletter, the website, and social media.

The Managing Editor will also be accountable to support the publication’s growth, engagement, and overall success by reviewing metrics, executing new tactics and monitoring growth. The editor will review newsletter metrics such as open and click-through rates, website analytics, and overall audience engagement on all platforms to ensure Capital Daily is connecting with its audience and providing the community-focused content they are looking for. The editor will also assist in creating content, and campaigns for Capital Daily’s paid membership program, as well as taking part in and hosting Capital Daily events to connect with readers and members, all while spreading the word to the community not yet subscribed.

This is a remote position based in Victoria, BC.

We have been running a content platform, ACT Intelligence, for about 6 months. ACT
Intelligence publishes fortnightly newsletters on topics to do with climate misinformation, audience insights and advertising techniques for a network of communications experts within NGOs, charities and ethical businesses.

ACT is all about reframing climate action for our Persuadables, the 69% of people in the UK who are worried about climate change, but for whom tackling it isn’t yet a priority.

We are looking for a creative, collaborative and versatile editor to help diversify and bring this content to life. You’ll own our content planning and development process and use your attention to detail to ensure all our communications are of the highest standard.

As ACT focuses on our Persuadables, we’re ideally looking for someone who also fits into this category, and has experience of bringing compelling stories to mass audiences.

This role will report into the project lead, and work closely with the wider team – particularly our Intelligence Lead. It’s a part time role of 4 days a month, for a fixed term contract of one year, and the day rate is £200 – £300 pending experience

We are seeking a part-time editor who can help our writers translate briefs into polished content that resonates with readers and delights clients.

As an editor for an agency specializing in content repurposing, or content transformation (our preferred term), you’ll need to ensure that the new content aligns with the client-provided primary sources (typically video or audio recordings). Most editing assignments include big-picture review as well as line edits. In addition to copyediting and proofreading, it’s your responsibility to make sure the piece matches up with the client’s requests and is structured in the best way possible.

We screen and hire writers carefully and we have an outstanding team. About 90% of the time, you’ll receive work that is a B+ or higher, and your job is to level up the writing to an A+. As for the other 10%, we’d be lying if we said things always go according to plan — especially with writing and editing work. In these infrequent instances, we’re looking for an editor who isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty in order to make a lackluster piece client ready.

And even though we’re a remote team, you’re not on your own. We’re a fun, collegial bunch of word nerds and our work truly is asynchronous. We work best with detail-oriented, motivated self-starters who take pride in their work and delight in finding the perfect GIF or meme to share in Slack (but don’t worry, we do NOT expect you to be on Slack all day, every day).
