We’re looking for a driven, self starting Video Editor to create optimizations “Shorts” for YouTube, Facebook, Snap, Tik Tok and Instagram. This includes repurposing long form original content from our creators and original social media shows onto other platforms and making them fit for Shorts platforms. The ideal candidate will be able to follow a process and style guide developed by our Creative Director and strategists, as well as have the ability to evolve and come up with their own improvements based on learnings from their previous edits. There will be deadlines that must be met in order to maintain output schedule for the projects they are responsible for.

The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for aesthetics and a passion for storytelling, particularly in the realm of day-in-the-life and informational videos about User Experience (UX) Design. Key Responsibilities:

Edit and assemble recorded footage into a finished project that matches the creator's vision and is suitable for broadcasting on YouTube.
Enhance video content with sound editing, color correction, and other post-production techniques to ensure high-quality and visually appealing final products.
Understand and implement UX design principles in video editing to make content informative and engaging for viewers.

Utilize creative editing techniques to formulate vlogs that are clear, engaging, and pleasant to listen to.
Add appropriate sound effects, music, and other audio elements to complement and enhance the visual storytelling.

What does this role look like in practice? You’ll contribute to the daily and weekly Grist site by editing stories from your reporting team, ranging from roughly 600 words to a few thousand. Grist is a small, highly collaborative team, so you may be asked to occasionally provide gut checks or top edits on larger projects, oversee other reporters temporarily while colleagues are on vacation, and represent Grist at conferences and workshops.
