CBC Kelowna is looking for a producer to coordinate our multi platform news content across our British Columbia locations. You will be an accomplished journalist with a sharp eye for a range of stories that connect with contemporary Canada and a proven track record of reporting on diverse and underrepresented communities.

In this role, you will work with and assign reporters in CBC’s smaller bureaus around B.C.  for all digital, audio and video platforms. You will provide hands-on editorial direction on the daily news agenda and lead and motivate staff to publish and distribute breaking news and fast-paced multimedia content. You will vet material and will provide feedback and mentorship as needed.

Reporting to the Executive Producer, you will help guide programming decisions around breaking news, live coverage, alerts, video, photos and in-depth content in line with strategic goals.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding and awareness of issues and events particular to British Columbia generally, and will have strong ties to, and a deep understanding of, underrepresented communities and equity-deserving groups in the Interior and North of British Columbia. ICI Alberta is seeking an experienced host for its morning radio program called Le café show. The show airs weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. in Alberta and the Northwest Territories. The position is based in Edmonton.

CBC P.E.I. is looking for a producer based in Charlottetown to lead the Island Morning team.

You will be responsible for what airs on morning radio — bringing fresh ideas, sharp editorial skills and a keen understanding of audio storytelling. 

This position leads a team of 4 people and reports to the Executive Producer.

Rosemary Barton Live is CBC News Network’s weekly Sunday political show. It first launched in November 2020 and is already showing strong audience growth as a destination for viewers who want political news and smart discussion about national issues on Sunday Mornings. The two-hour program airs live 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET on CBC News Network, and also 11 to 11:30 a.m. on CBC Television.

Your role will focus on contributing to Rosemary Barton Live's journalistic impact by chasing and producing interviews with key newsmakers and national figures, as well as supporting the host with major interviews, conventions and special coverage and in her contributions to related programs as CBC’s Chief Political Correspondent, and to support other CBC News programs and platforms in leveraging the content of Rosemary Barton Live.

The Producer is expected to contribute significantly to the editorial direction of the show. This includes producing broadcast and online-specific stories and segments and sourcing TV material in order to promote and capitalize on significant news and the most influential guests. An interest in and knowledge of politics in Canada and the United States is essential for this role, and experience covering politics an asset.

The producer will also seek out new stories and voices, contribute creative and innovative story pitches, uphold a  commitment to original journalism, and make editorial decisions when necessary.  

Other duties include chasing guests, researching stories, writing scripts, working with the Chief Political Correspondent to provide research, and producing graphics and video editing. There is a requirement to develop meaningful stories and contacts as well as ensure a diversity of voices and perspectives in all  news treatments. The producer must be able to effectively and creatively respond to breaking and live news. There is often a requirement to coordinate the activities of others for the production of this material. Work must adhere to CBC journalistic and/or program policies, practices and standards but initiative and independent  judgment are required.

As well, supporting the host on CBC News Network special broadcast or other programs as needed.

This position is new to CBC in the Maritimes. The producer will create journalistic content in innovative and engaging ways that is relevant and reflective of the people who live in the Maritime provinces. The producer will build relationships with people in underserved communities and design initiatives that bring compelling stories and contributors from those communities to the local programming at CBC (audio, video, and text). Sometimes the producer will be responsible for producing their own content, reports and stories. Other times the producer will be coaching and developing content creators from inside and outside of CBC.

The position calls for a storyteller with a curiosity about people, who is comfortable working with technology to produce audio, visual and text-based content. While the producer does not lead a dedicated team, they collaborate with journalists and programmers at CBC stations across the Maritime provinces to design the team they need for different projects. The producer must be comfortable working autonomously, building relationships and planning projects. They know how to engage others, how to set goals and use data to measure success.
