Writing and Editing, Journalism, Multimedia, Video Production
This is a full-time permanent position, based in the Toronto Broadcast Centre.
We are looking for the next Senior Producer of Video to join The National’s current affairs and original video development team. If that's you, you are known for both your creative storytelling skills and your journalistic rigour. It’s that combination that we require from a leader who will be assigning, developing and vetting content from the world’s top journalists and field producers.
The most wonderful and challenging aspect of this job is the ability to turn around contextual pieces in a breaking news environment under tight deadlines, and planning ahead so your team can also tackle in-depth and investigative stories.
You are an experienced current affairs field producer. You know what it takes to deploy reporters and producers around the country or the world, keep them on budget, and keep them inspired. You can review a paper edit, screen a rough cut, and understand how to work with the story team to make it stronger.
Innovation and creativity have to be in your DNA. People love working with you and think you are a kind person and may even have a great sense of humour. Everyone thinks you are calm under intense pressure.
You need to be open to new video storytelling treatments that will reach an audience that doesn’t consume news in traditional ways. You’ve also got to be passionate about finding original or underreported stories about the biggest issues facing Canadians and the world. An important part of that is a proven capacity to create content that engages with modern news users. You are 100% invested in ensuring our journalism reaches as many people as possible on all of CBC’s on-demand, social and video platforms.
Strong video field producing skills are a prerequisite but not necessarily traditional broadcasting skills. Proven judgement and experience in applying ethics and journalistic standards are required so your work fits within CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
