Pagemasters North America (PMNA) is seeking part-time (possibly full-time) contract layout/copy editors who can work in a fast-paced news environment. We want someone with a knack for pagination and headline writing, someone who can work fast and produce clean pages. This position can be remote anywhere within Canada, and remote or hybrid from Toronto or Calgary. The contracts will run four to six months.

These editors will be joining a new team, so we expect to have a mix of experience levels. From recent student newspaper editors to seasoned industry vets looking for something new, and any newspaper lovers in between, we want to talk to you. Responsibilities:     

• Generate original stories and other content for all platforms
• Responsible for writing at least 5-7 news stories per day and updating them.
• Pitch ideas for original reporting
• Ensure the accuracy, consistency and adherence to standards of all material on the site (articles, headlines, photos, captions, video, etc.)
• Copy editing stories for grammar and accuracy
• Video editing
• May be asked to do on camera work.
• Visualizations in infographics, maps, quizzes, timelines and data journalism
• Monitoring and publishing wires, with focus on SEO, keywords and social sharing
• Managing multiple social media streams; sending news alerts
• Participate in news editorial meetings
• Other duties as assigned
