Pact, in partnership with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), is hiring consultants for the new Asia Investigative Reporting Network (AIR Network) program.

AIR is conducting an interrelated series of formative assessments, including a network and landscape analysis, a media assessment, an applied political economy analysis, and a gender equity and social inclusion assessment. The consultants will ensure that data is collected and organized appropriately, and lead on the drafting and revision of the final deliverables, integrating feedback from the AIR team.

Sports Illustrated is seeking a talented editor focused on breaking, trending and viral sports content who will feed passionate fans with the latest news and insights. This editor will assist with the production of quick-turn, shareable news covering trending and viral sports topics. We're looking for an ambitious candidate with sound journalistic instincts who has an eye for a great story, a feel for what makes a clicky angle and an intuitive sense for how to evolve a story through a news cycle. 

The ideal candidate will have strong copy skills, experience working with and providing feedback to writers, and will be a strong writer themselves, with the ability to turn around a story quickly and cleanly as needed. The ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment is essential. 

The 2023 fellowship offers two up-and-coming photographers anywhere in Canada the opportunity to work with mentors at Room Up Front to produce a photo essay or visual feature for The Narwhal. Applicants may apply to produce a photo essay or feature on their own, or may pitch a project in partnership with a Narwhal reporter. Fellows receive hands-on training from editors at The Narwhal in photojournalism production, editorial planning, feature layout and design as well as hands-on experience throughout the assigning, writing, editing and fact-checking process.

The fellowship also provides recipients the opportunity to dive deep into a unique photojournalism project that does what The Narwhal does best: expresses our complex relationships with the natural world in Canada. 

Each fellow receives $3,000 to produce an original photo essay for publication on The Narwhal by July 2024. The recipient’s mentor through Room Up Front also receives a stipend of $1,000.

This is a full-time permanent position, based in the Toronto Broadcast Centre.

You can review a paper edit, screen a rough cut, and understand how to work with the story team to make it  stronger.

You need to be open to new video storytelling treatments that will reach an audience that doesn’t consume news in traditional ways. You’ve also got to be passionate about finding original or underreported stories about the biggest issues facing Canadians and the world.  An important part of that is a proven capacity to create content that engages with modern news users.  You are 100% invested in ensuring our journalism reaches as many people as possible on all of CBC’s on-demand, social and video platforms. 

Strong video field producing skills are a prerequisite but not necessarily traditional broadcasting skills. Proven judgement and experience in applying ethics and journalistic standards are required so your work fits within CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
